Interior Painting

Interior painting in Florida means dealing with humidity, so we don't paint when moisture is high or when AC isn't running — paint needs to cure right or it'll stay tacky or peel early. We use Sherwin-Williams for most jobs because the coverage is consistent and the finish holds up.

Prep is half the job. We patch nail holes and dings with lightweight spackle, caulk gaps where trim meets wall, sand any rough texture, and prime stains or raw patches. If you're painting over dark colors or covering water stains, expect an extra coat or a stain-blocking primer. We mask off trim, outlets, and fixtures, and we lay drop cloths — not plastic sheets that slide around.

Cabinet painting is a different animal. We pull doors and hardware, clean off grease and grime, sand or degloss the existing finish, prime with a bonding primer, then spray or roll two coats of cabinet enamel. It takes longer and costs more than wall painting because the prep and cure time matter. Cabinets that aren't prepped right will chip at the edges within a month.

Texture matching on patches is hit-or-miss. If your walls have orange peel or knockdown, we'll get close, but it won't be invisible under certain light. Popcorn ceiling patches are tougher — the new stuff never quite matches the old, and if the ceiling was painted, scraping and re-texturing might be the better call.

Typical single-room job: one day for prep and first coat, second day for second coat and cleanup. Whole-house interiors depend on square footage and how much trim work there is, but figure a week minimum for an average three-bedroom home.

We don't paint exteriors in the rainy season — moisture gets trapped under the paint and causes blistering and peeling. If you need exterior work, we'll schedule it during the dry months when the paint has the best chance to cure properly.

Color matching is straightforward if you have the original paint can with the color code. If not, we can take a chip to the paint store and they'll match it with their scanner. It's usually close but not always perfect — age, fading, and lighting affect how it looks. Stain matching on wood is harder because the wood itself varies.
