Common questions, honest answers.
Do I need to be home while you're working?
For the initial walkthrough and estimate, yes. After that, it depends on the job. If we need access to locked rooms or need to ask questions as we go, someone should be around. For exterior work like pressure washing or deck repairs, you don't need to be home as long as we have access to the work area and a water spigot if needed.
How do you charge — by the hour or by the job?
Depends on the work. Small repairs and service calls are usually hourly. Larger projects like remodeling, flooring installs, or full paint jobs are quoted as a flat rate after we see the scope. We'll tell you upfront which way we're billing before we start.
Do you pull permits for work?
We handle work that doesn't require permits — repairs, painting, flooring, trim, fixture swaps. Anything that needs a permit in Florida — structural changes, electrical rough-in, plumbing rough-in, HVAC work — requires a licensed contractor in that trade. We'll tell you if your project needs a permit and point you to someone licensed if it does.
Can you match paint or stain that's already on my walls or trim?
We can get close. If you have the original paint can with the color code, we'll use that. If not, we can take a chip to the paint store and they'll match it with their scanner. It's usually close but not always perfect — age, fading, and lighting affect how it looks. Stain matching on wood is harder because the wood itself varies.
What if you find more damage once you start the job?
We stop and show you. If we're replacing a vanity and find rotted subfloor, or patching drywall and find mold, we'll explain what we found, what it'll take to fix it, and what the extra cost is. You decide whether to proceed or pause. We don't do extra work without talking to you first.
Do you work on mobile homes?
Yes. Mobile homes have different framing and materials than site-built homes, so repairs need different techniques and fasteners. We handle floor repairs, skirting, underbelly work, door and window adjustments, and interior repairs in mobile homes regularly across Columbia County.
